Thanks for sharing this. Are the photos public domain or free to browse? Sometimes I think about astronomers booking time on powerful telescopes. They have more questions than time allows and so must prioritize which questions about the universe to investigate. And sometimes answering those questions takes years and years. Anyhow, that long view seems to me to have something in common with your thoughts.
Hey Erik, if your asking about Archives of the Planet, those are 'Freely reusable (CC-00) - Public Domain', I recommend looking through the Albert Kahn musuem, they gave digitized a lot of the images and are easy to browse. And that is such a great connection! My partner does research, and only thinks in the long view. Yes, you find conclusions and publish, but it is never seen as an end but rather one step forward.
Hey Ula, thank you again for sharing these photos and for taking the time to help answer my question. Thanks, yes it does sound like your partner’s research. And those we love influence us. Curious if you’ve ever heard of the Long Now Foundation or Bradbury’s short story “Frost and Fire”. The Long Now has had some interesting speakers. And the story was recommended by a friend who loved it as an allegory for scientific progress. How our lives are short but we can still love, learn, and contribute to our collective understanding.
